EL SEGUNDO, USA: iSuppli Corp. recently hosted a Design Activity Tool activity entitled, “Mixed Signals in OEM Design Activities”, where Min-Sun Moon, senior analyst, Semiconductor Spend and Design, iSuppli, discussed how the “values” of design activities are discerned globally and how design decisions are made by a given country.

While the US continued to lead the world in semiconductor design influence for mixed signal ICs in 2008, China has ramped up its design activity in this area to claim the No.-3 highest influencer of mixed signal design worldwide, behind Japan.

China has capitalized on the economic downturn and the continued expansion of subscribers and unit shipments of mobile handsets to the country. While the US and Japan account for more than 55 percent of the mixed signal semiconductor design influence, China is gaining ground, archiving 10 percent of the mixed signal semiconductor design spending in 2008.

More details to follow.
